Budget Build - Budgeted Fund Balance

Modified on Fri, Sep 27 at 8:52 AM

After your scenarios and worksheets are created and you have entered your projected appropriations and estimated revenues, you can start to build and review your General Fund Budgeted Fund Balance.   Go to Budget >>> Budget Build >>> Budgeted FB tab.

Budgeted Fund Balance is the difference between your projected appropriations and estimated revenues.  It is, in effect, the revenue source that balances your budget if your projected appropriations are in excess of your estimated revenues.  The Budget Build system will automatically calculate the General Fund Budgeted Fund Balance for each scenario as long as you created the Budgeted FB worksheet.  To create the worksheet, click here:

If you have more than one scenario, they will show across the top of this screen.  You can click on the scenario name to move to the next scenario.

The Budget Build module will display the current General Fund Budgeted Fund Balance.  As you make projected appropriation or estimated revenue adjustments, this figure will change accordingly.  The General Fund Budgeted Fund Balance can be found here:

Budgeting for any Balance Sheet lines in the NJDOE budget program:

This screen is also where you will enter the budget for any projected appropriation of estimated revenue that has a balance sheet line associated with it in the NJDOE budget program.  In this worksheet, you can enter the amount and the budget build module will automatically adjust your budgeted fund balance accordingly.  Entering the amounts as indicated will ensure your compliance with the State Audit Program and the Budget Manual and when your budget is complete and rolled over, the required balance sheet adjustments will be posted to your financial tab and they will properly included in the Report of the Board Secretary (BSR).

Budgeted Fund Balance for Special Revenue (Fund 20) and Debt Service (Fund 40) Funds

The District MUST review the Special Revenue Fund and the Debt Service Fund to ensure the Budgeted Fund balance, if any, is complete and accurate.  The system will automatically create and post the Budgeted fund balance for these funds but these funds are NOT included in the above analysis.
