Longevity Rules

Longevity Rules specify how staff members in a specific Longevity Category earn Longevity Years of Service and the related additional contractual earnings.  The purpose of an individual Longevity Rule is to specify, for a Longevity Category, how many years in service are required to earn a specific Additional Contractual Earning.

  • Completed Years in NJ - The minimum number of years a staff member must have earned in the State for this rule to apply to them.

  • Completed Years in LEA - The minimum number of years a staff member must have earned in the district for this rule to apply to them. This is the most commonly used rule amongst SchoolFi clients.

  • Completed Total Years of Experience - The minimum number of years a staff member must have earned for this rule to apply to them.

  • Completed Years not in the LEA  - The minimum number of years a staff member must have earned for this rule to apply to them.

These service records are recorded on and maintained on an individual staff member's "Years of Service" field appears on their Personnel >> Modify Staff >> Years of Service screen.

  • The Additional Contractual Earnings Awarded - select the Additional Contractual Earning that will be used for including the Longevity in the individuals Contractual Salary.

  • Override Amount - enter the amount that the individual will be paid when the Rule parameters are met.

  • Stop Processing Rules - Check this box if the override amount, in total, is the amount that the individual will be paid when the Rule parameters are met.  In general, this box is checked for most districts.  If you uncheck the box, then the longevity amount will be "stacked".  For the example above, if the individual has 26 years of experience in the District, they would be paid $8,700 ($3,600 plus $5,100).
