Genesis SchoolFi is only supporting the IRIS (Information Returns Intake System). We are NO LONGER supporting the FIRE (e-Filing Information Returns Electronically) system.
Any Transmitter Control Code (TCC) obtained for use with the FIRE System cannot be used for IRIS. IRIS and the FIRE System are separate systems, and each require their own Transmitter Control Code (TCC).
This article will walk you through the steps necessary to register for the IRS's IRIS Taxpayer Portal where you will submit and manage your 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC forms.
Why do I have to submit my 1099 forms electronically?
On February 21, 2023, the Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service published final regulations reducing the threshold for filing returns and other documents electronically. These regulations require filers of 10 or more information returns in a calendar year beginning in 2024, tax year 2023, to file those information returns electronically.
What do I have to do to obtain a IRIS TCC number?
Register to receive your (Transmitter Control Code) number from IRS If you haven't already done so. See steps below for how to register. Note: it may take up to 45 days for processing for a TCC number; plan on applying for the number as soon as possible if you do not have one, or if personnel have changed in your district and you need to add/delete personnel.
How do I get an IRIS TCC number if I do not have one?
- Step 1 - The IRS uses ID.me, a technology provider, to provide identity verification and sign-in services. If you do not already have this verification, click HERE for the link to complete the process.
- Step 2 - It is critical to register for your TCC (Transmitter Control Code) number immediately. You can use the following link to access the IRIS TCC Application: https://www.irs.gov/tax-professionals/iris-application-for-tcc
When you are completing your application for the TCC, be sure to apply as an "issuer" and the transmission method must be "Portal"

- NOTE: The IRS requires multiple individuals register as Responsible Officials (RO) and Authorized Delegates (AD). Be sure each person has their ID.me account created before you start the TCC registration process.

How do I record my IRIS TCC number in SchoolFi?
If you registered for the IRIS system in 2023, the IRS issued you a five-character alphanumeric TCC that begins with the letter ‘D’. The IRS would have sent you a letter with this information to the mailing address on your application. We strongly recommend you log into the IRIS system to make sure your access is up to date and you can still log in. This will prevent panic when you're trying to file your forms.
Ensure in SchoolFi that your IRIS TCC number is entered on the Financial > Vendors > 1099 > IRIS > Setup screen.
