SGO Final Calculation Process

Modified on Tue, Apr 18, 2023 at 9:46 AM

PLEASE NOTE: It is an optional feature for the form to automatically calculate your "Results Section" of the SGO form for you. If you choose to have the form calculate the results for you, it will follow the below math based on the state's requirements.

As long as your "Scoring Plan" setion and "# or % Students at Target Score" sections are only populated with whole numbers and no letter or symbol characters, the SGO form will automatically calculate your:

  • Teacher SGO Score (per group)
  • Weight (per group)
  • Weighted Score (per group)
  • Sum Weighted Score
  • Total Teacher SGO Score

The form calculates the scores as follows:

(We have chosen to use the form example from NJ Achieve's "SGO Guidebook 15-16", page 31; figure 15).

Preparedness Groups

# Students in Each Group

High

7

Middle

22

Low

16

Total # Students

45

Please note: the state rounded on two out of the three calculations for the "Weight (based on students per group)" column. Therefore, our automatic form calculation rounds to the nearest hundredth place (ie. High Group Weight is not rounded, but Middle and Low Group Weights are rounded to the nearest hundredth place).

Teacher SGO Score (per group)

This number is based on the breakdown you created for you Scoring Plan section and the "# or % Students at Target Score".

Weight (per group)

"Number of Students in Each Group" divided by the "Number of Students at Target Score".

Then the number you got times 1.0

For example:

  • Group 1 has 7 students and there are 45total students for this SGO form
    • 7 / 45 = 0.1555 = 0.16 (rounded)
    • 0.16 x 100 = 16
  • Group 2 has 22 students and there are 45total students for this SGO form
    • 22 / 45 = 0.4888 = 0.49 (rounded)
    • 0.49 x 100 = 49
  • Group 3 has 16 students and there are 45total students for this SGO form
    • 16 / 45 = 0.3555 = 0.36 (rounded)
    • 0.36 x 100 = 36

Preparedness Groups

# Students in Each Group

High

7

Middle

22

Low

16

Total Students

45

Weighted Score (per group)

"Weight" times 0.01.

Then "Teacher SGO Score" times the number you got.

For example:

  • Group 1 "Weight" is 16 and the Teacher SGO Score for Group 1 is 3for this SGO form.
    • 16 x 0.01 = 0.16
    • 3 x 0.16 = 0.48
  • Group 2 "Weight" is 49 and the Teacher SGO Score for Group 2 is 4for this SGO form.
    • 49 x 0.01 = 0.49
    • 4 x 0.49 = 1.96
  • Group 3 "Weight" is 36 and the Teacher SGO Score for Group 3 is 2for this SGO form.
    • 36 x 0.01 = 0.36
    • 2 x 0.36 = 0.72

Sum Weighted Score

The "Sum Weighted Score" is the total of all "Weighted Scores"

For example:

  • The "Weighted Scores" for the SGO form below are 0.48, 1.96, and 0.72
  • 0.48 + 1.96 + 0.72 = 3.16

Total Teacher SGO Score

Is an average of the each group's "Teacher SGO Score".

For example:

  • Group 1 Teacher SGO Score = 3
  • Group 2 Teacher SGO Score = 4
  • Group 3 Teacher SGO Score = 2
    • The average of these 3 = 3.00
